Photographer + Dancer: Cycles, Ortographobia, Fight Flight and Automatic Responses
Performer, Choreographer, and Photographer, Jamie Carr, was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Jamie loves to learn and work with others to accomplish a common goal. Jamie’s passion for performing and knowledge of community service led her to graduate Magna Cum Laude from California State University Long Beach with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance and an Associates Arts degree in Photography. She had the pleasure to work with distinguished faculty such as Lorin Johnson, Sophie Monat, and Keith Johnson, Rebecca Lemme, and Rebecca Bryant. Jamie also has the opportunity work with guest residencies such as Alex Ketley and Sidra Bell. To help further her knowledge, Jamie has traveled across the world attending workshops and intensives including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago summer intensive, Bodytraffic summer and spring intensives, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance summer intensive, the Dawson Wallace pre-professional summer program, Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Dance, and OPENFLR summer program in Florence, Italy. Jamie has trained and performed works by several high-profile artists including Sidra Bell, Alex Ketley, Summer Lee Rhatigan, James Wallace, Gregory Dawson, and David Hernandez.
Jamie has represented CSULB Department of Dance by performing at the regional American College Dance Association, as well as, taking on leadership roles in the department such as Vice President and Production Assistant. Jamie has received the Fine Arts Affiliates Scholarship in Dance and the Carolyn Cunningham Scholarship as an appreciation for her hard work and dedication to the department and her community.
Since graduation, Jamie has had the honorable pleasure to be dancing and performing with Los Angeles contemporary companies Project21Dance and VIDA. She also has established her own company Authentic. Authentic is a movement-based business comprised of three divisions (Grooves, Pics, and Links) offering unique business services in the areas she is passionate about. Authentic: Grooves is a performing company that explores the complexities of human emotion through movement. Authentic: Pics is a photography/videography company that captures people authentically in motion. Authentic: Links works with non-profit groups to reach out to the community in unique ways to address local needs through movement and art.

Jamie strives to eliminate the preconceived notions one may have and create an authentic connection with her community in order to create a dialog.
